Dogs Love Beaches Too

Man's best friend now can join
fellow owners on state beach property

By Jayme Sumida/ Heart of Hawaii

Humans and dogs alike now have the luxury of enjoying the shoreline and the ocean together. A demand has been introduced to accommodate those who want to enjoy the shorelines resources with their pet dogs. Evans introduced this bill. House Bill NO. 25 allows residents and their pet dogs access to designated state park vicinities with entry of a shoreline.

The Act says dogs can now be permitted these rights if owners abide by a few terms. One regulation states that all dogs must be controlled by the owner from a leash, chain or other related means at all times. The leash, chain or other physical restraint material must be no more than eight feet in length.

Each individual is responsible for the disposal of their own dog’s waste while on state park property. The state is not accounted for any civil property damages or injuries when in the state park. “State park” does not include areas designated under the Hawaii natural area reserve system. Fines and violations will be charge if residents do not comply to these regulations found in the bill.
